Eeko Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Eeko Labs LLC (“Eeko,” “we,” or “us”) handles information in connection with the Eeko mobile app and this website. Eeko is a nature identification and discovery app that helps people identify organisms, save observations, learn about species, and explore nature nearby.
Information We Collect
Eeko may collect information you choose to provide or generate while using the app, including:
Photos you take or select for identification; saved observations, which may include the image, identified taxon or species information, date and time, optional notes, and optional location; and app progress such as discoveries, streaks, XP, and earned rewards.
Eeko currently uses anonymous authentication. Your observations and progress are associated with an anonymous user identifier for your app session rather than a name, email address, or phone number. You do not currently need to create a traditional login to use Eeko.
Photos and Identification
When you take or select a photo, Eeko processes the image to help identify the organism shown. That processing may involve AI-based identification services operated by our service providers.
If you save an observation, the photo and related identification information may be stored with your account so you can view it later in your collection.
Location
Location is optional and can be skipped.
If you choose to use location features, Eeko may use latitude and longitude to provide nearby species context, local observation patterns, maps, and a record of where you found an organism. You may also choose a location manually.
Core identification can be used without granting location permission.
How We Use Information
We use information to operate Eeko and provide its features, including identifying organisms, displaying and storing observations, providing educational information, showing locally relevant nature content when location is available, and maintaining your discovery history and progress.
Eeko Labs LLC does not sell personal information. Eeko does not use third-party advertising and does not currently use advertising tracking.
Service Providers
We use service providers to help us operate Eeko. Eeko uses Supabase for backend infrastructure, including database, file storage, and authentication. The app may also use other providers as needed for app functionality, such as AI-based identification processing, mapping, and nature-observation data.
These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services and are subject to their own privacy practices. We do not control how long a provider may retain information on its systems, and this policy does not make guarantees about third-party retention.
Data Storage and Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect saved information and to restrict users to their own observations and account data.
No online service can guarantee absolute security. Transmission and storage of information always involve some risk.
Data Retention and Deletion
You can permanently delete individual saved observations from within Eeko. When an observation is deleted, its saved observation record and associated stored photo are removed from Eeko’s app database and storage according to our deletion process.
Some progress information, such as discovery history or XP records, may remain after an individual observation is deleted so that rewards cannot be repeatedly earned by deleting and re-adding the same discovery.
You can permanently delete your Eeko account from within the app: open Settings, then Account, then Delete Account. Account deletion removes the user account and associated app data according to Eeko’s deletion flow, including observations, photos, notes, saved locations, discovery history, progress, and rewards associated with that account.
After account deletion, a new anonymous account may be created if you continue using the app, and previous saved data will not automatically reconnect.
Anonymous Accounts
Because Eeko currently uses anonymous accounts, deleting and reinstalling the app, or using a different device, may create a new anonymous identifier. Previous saved data may not automatically reconnect to the new installation.
Children
Eeko is a general-audience educational nature app. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact support@eekolabs.com and we will take appropriate steps.
This Website
This website is a static informational site. It does not use analytics, advertising cookies, or account sign-in.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Eeko changes. If we make material updates, we will revise the effective date and make the updated policy available through the app or this website.
